There are currently six members of staff working at WOFHRAD.
National Coordinator and Founder – Isha Kanu-Moriba
Ms. Isha Kanu-Moriba as the founder of WOFHRAD is among the few Sierra Leonean woman that has been determined to bring some positive influence to young women and men, most particularly in the northern region of Sierra Leone. As a young woman with values, working experience and up-bringing in the northern part of Sierra Leone she was always passionate in encouraging young women and men (youths) in activism for human rights, good governance and democracy, justice, equality and peace. She is an enrolled student at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa, Italy, waiting for the award of a Masters of Art degree in Human Rights and Conflict Management. Ms. Isha Kanu-Moriba graduated with a Bachelor of Art degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Makeni-UNIMAK in 2011. Over the years she has acquired some verse working knowledge in human rights and the rule of law over through her experience working with the United Nations Mission(s) in Sierra Leone.
Acting National Coordinator and Co-Founder – Emilia Kamara
Emilia was born in 1982 in Makeni and has lived here all her life in a large extended family. She graduated from the University of Makeni (Fatima Institute) in 2007 with a Diploma in Development Communication. After graduating, she did a certificate on Electorial Administration and Civic Education at Fatmima Institute, Makeni. Emilia is currently the Northern Regional focal person for the Human Rights Committee, Chairperson for the Bombali Human Rights Committee, Chairperson for the Bombali District Budget Advocacy Network and Boardmember of St andrews Junior Secondary School, Teko Barracks Makeni. Her reasons for founding WOFHRAD have been explained in the previous post but can be summed up as wanting to create a culture of human rights, good governance and peace in Sierra Leone. Her hope is that WOFHRAD will grow as an organisation and keep going long into the future.
Finance and Admin Officer – Francis Gombay
Francis was born in 1981 in Bo, which is in the south of Sierra Leone. He has a BA in Philosophy and Humanity and a Diploma in Education and Philosophy from the University of Makeni. Like the majority of Sierra Leoneans he loves football and is an ardent supporter of Arsenal. His aims whilst working at WOFHRAD are to see the cause of women in Sierra Leone being championed and to see women come out and stand up for their rights. He also wants to help ensure that democratic rules and laws are fully implemented in his country.
Field Officer – Simeon Kargbo
Simeon was born in 1986 in Port Loko in the Northern part of Sierra Leone. He graduated from the University of Makeni in Febuary 2013 with a degree in Development Studies. Simeon also loves football, both playing and watching (supporting Manchester United) and also plays volleyball in his spare time. He chose to work at WOFHRAD to experience NGO work and build his capacity. His aim is to see how the imput of the organisation improves women’s empowerment and the lives of children in Sierra Leone.
Assistant Field Officer – Abu Bakarr Conteh
Abu Bakarr Conteh (known as ABC to us all) was born in 1990 in Kamalo Sanda Loko Chiefdom Bombali District. He attended the Government Secondary School for Boys in Magburaka, Tonkolili District. He is an ex volunteer for VSO-ICS.
Field Officer – Andrew Kamara
Unfortunately, at the time of writing this post, Andrew was busy taking his Law examinations at the University of Makeni so was not available for interview!
