Supporting Gender Equality and Social Accountability Through a Strengthened Civil Society

Overall Objective: Civil Society is strengthened to engage in women’s empowerment and support women’s active participation as actors in democratic governance and development in Sierra Leone.
Specific Objective: To strengthen women’s voice, influence and participation in democratic governance in Sierra Leone through a strengthened civil society.
Strengthened engagement & coordination
Strengthened engagement and coordination between Duty-Bearers and Citizens through town hall meeting geared to foster dialogue on policies for enhanced service delivery in health, education and social protection and women’s empowerment in the project implementation district.
Appropriate, gender-sensitive advocacy
5,600 community members (2,800 males & 2,800 females) including persons with disabilities reached with age appropriate, gender sensitive advocacy and social behavior change messages for peaceful elections, increased political participation of women, empowerment and appointive positions in governance and leadership roles.
Community of Practice
Women’s voice amplified through District Level Community of Practice (CoP) for Women’s empowerment in the three implementation districts which serve as solidarity groups to coordinate, collaborate, and advocate for safe space and active participation of women in governance and leadership positions.
Networks of Young Women in Governance
9 Networks of Young Women in Governance established in the project implementation Distrcits who currently champion the empowerment of young women as decision-makers in their various communities in 14 operational wards.
Increased Efficiency of CSOs
Increased Efficiency and Effectiveness of CSOs in delivering of project milestones through strengthened Capacity and accompaniment support.
